Arrive in Glasgow at your leisure today. The remainder of the day is free for ou to explore Glasgow city centre.
You will spend two2 nights on a B&B basis in a central Glasgow hotel.
Today we will visit Pollok House and Gardens, both of which were featured as film sets for Outlander Seasons 1 and 2. Whilst there, you will have time to explore this extensive woodland garden area, at theonce voted the best park in Britain and Europe. You will then continue sightseeing the other Outlander attractions in Glasgow.
Following breakfast, we will explore some of the most recognisable Outlander sites. First on our list is Doune Castle which plays a leading role in the show, substituting for the fictional Castle Leoch and home to Colum Mackenzie and his clan in the 18th Century.
The next stops are Tullibardine, Drummond Castle Gardens and Tibbermore Church, famous for its amazing architecture and parks.
Aft,er we will stay overnight in the Highland village of Pitlochry.
This morning is free to explore the village of Pitlochry, followed by some optional visits to some of the Outlander sites around Pitlochry.
After breakfast, we leave to travel North to Inverness. The first stop is the Highland Folk Museum. The replicas of 18th century turf-roofed Highland crofts at the Highland Folk Museum in Newtonmore made the ideal choice for period scenes in Outlander, including when Dougal collects the rent.
If time and weather permits, we can visit the Sheep Dogs on route to Inverness
Our drive continues to the Highland Capital, the city of Inverness, where we will stay in a central hotel for 3 nights.
Today is reserved for Culloden – the famous battlefield where the Jacobite uprising led by Bonnie Prince Charlie came to its tragic end – and Clava Cairns the 2000-year-old stone circles said to have inspired Diana Gabaldon to write Outlander. This is followed by afternoon tea at Culloden House Hotel.
Today we will take a cruise on the world-famous Loch Ness. On the day you will enjoy this memorable one-hour cruise from Dochgarroch locks along Loch Ness to Urquhart Castle. En route you can admire the breath-taking scenery around you and you never know, maybe there is a chance that you will spot the mysterious Nessie, the Loch Ness Monster. Upon your arrival at Urquhart Castle, enjoy a wander around these magnificent ruins and learn all about its historical background.
You will then travel to Wardlaw Mausoleun, the place where Lord Lovat, the “old fox” of the Jacobite Rebellion was believed to have been buried.
Back in Inverness you will have the rest of the day to enjoy at your leisure.
Following breakfast, we will travel back to Edinburgh. En route we will visit Falkland and Culross.
You will stay in Edinburgh in a central hotel for 3 nights.
Today you will explore various Outlander sites near Edinburgh. First on our list is Callander House then it is on to Midhope and Hopetoun House followed by Blackness Castle which all featured in the filming of Outlander.
We start today at the most distinctive of Edinburgh’s many historic buildings, Edinburgh Castle, set strikingly on top of volcanic rock. You will have time to explore this magnificent castle before embarking on an Outlander themed guided walk down the Royal Mile which extends downhill to Holyrood Palace, the Queens official residence in Scotland.
En route you will hear about the history of this famous street and of the shaping of the city of Edinburgh over the centuries. Be prepared for some stories that will make your hair stand on end, and others that will have you laughing and even crying! You will also hear about Jacobite connections and, of course we will be stopping at key locations used in Series 3.
When we reach the foot of the Royal Mile you can use your free time to explore more of the captivating city or prepare for your final evening and farewell dinner.
